Lorna Dobson
November 7, 1928 - August 21,2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother at the age of
95, peacefully surrounded by family. Predeceased by her first husband John Oosterhuis
(1961) and second husband William Dobson (2016), parents Alice and James Wright, siblings Phyllis, Freda and James.
Loving mother to John (Carrie), Larry (Sue), Craig, Cathy and Linda. Sadly missed by grandchildren Katie (Blain), Becky (Andrew) and Tyler (Gill), 6 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mom was born in Toronto at St Michael's hospital. Growing up her favourite things were
going to the movies, library and spending time with her brother and his wife Helen and
their children. She met our dad roller skating. They married in 1948 and moved to the
Holland Marsh where his family were farmers, emigrating from Holland. After having two
children they were forced to leave when their house was destroyed by Hurricane Hazel
in 1954. They relocated to Scarborough, dad worked for the City and they had three
more children. Shortly after dad passed away from cancer. Mom worked very hard at
home caring for her children, later starting a home daycare. Mom then met Bill, marrying
in 1967. A few years later mom began working at various office jobs in Toronto, retiring
at 65. In retirement mom continued her weekly movie outings as well as enjoying their
vast home video collection. Mom’s lifelong passion for reading continued with her many
books and daily reading of the Star. Mom was the kindest, sweetest caring person and
had a smile that would light up a room. We all loved her very much and will miss her
deeply.
Friends will be received at the Accettone Funeral Home (384 Finley Ave., Ajax) on September 5, 2024 at 11:00 am until the time of service in the chapel at 12:00 Noon

Dear John, Larry, Craig, Cathy, Linda and all the family,
Diana and I were very saddened to hear of your mom's passing. She was without a doubt the sweetest lady. When I'd call Craig at the house, Lorna would pick up the phone and the two of us would talk forever. Such a lovely soul. So blessed to have her as our friend. God Bless.
