Alan "Big Al" Leonard Timmins, 96, of Ajax, Ontario passed away on October 31st, 2025.
He was born to parents Marjorie & Alex Timmins on October 12, 1929 in Wolverhampton, England. The family immigrated to Toronto, Canada in June of 1930. Alan attended public school in Toronto, in 1945 he started working for Brown Brothers Limited working full time. In 1948, he joined the Auxiliary Navy serving on the HMCS Haida for six months . After his leave with the Navy, he returned to work at Brown Brothers where his supervisor and soon to be father-in-law invited him to his cottage one weekend where he met his future wife Donna, they married October 13, 1951. Alan spent nights delivering food to save for a down payment and the Timmins family moved into their first and last home with their three small children, Debbie, Gary, and Glenn.
Big Al was a big personality with a bigger heart. Former member of the Ajax Royal Canadian Legion Branch 322, including playing in the Pipe Band, Santa Claus for many local organizations, and a kind neighbour on Tulloch Drive. At 61 he retired and spent most of his summer days golfing in the morning and sailing in the afternoon which was something he had enjoyed since he was a child. Alan was quick to tell a joke, speak the truth and say he loved you, sometimes in the same sentence.
He is survived by his three children, Debbie Timmins-Will of Brighton, Gary Timmins (Sue) of Toronto, Glenn Timmins of Oshawa. Grandchildren Justin Parish, Lindsay Gallagher (David), Brian Timmins, and Kristen Vernoy Great Grandchildren Emma Parish and Henry Gallagher.
Alan is predeceased by his Mother Marjorie and Father Alex, Brother Gerry Timmins, Sister Joan Timmins and beloved wife, Donna Timmins.
The memorial service will be held on Friday November 7, 2025 at Accettone Funeral Home , viewing at 11am with a service to follow at 1pm. Family and friends are welcome to join us at the Ajax Legion at 111 Hunt Street after the service.
The Timmins family requests donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
