Lee, Lois

July 1935 - September 2025
Lois Lillian Dumond was born Jul 25, 1935 in Barrie Ontario. She was the first child of Thomas and Lillian Dumond. She was followed by sisters Althea (Thompson), Marion (Newans) and Gloria (Sharples), and brother Donald. Lois was born right in the middle of the Dirty Thirties, the time period following the Great depression of 1929. Employment was scarce and the family lived off the land literally as the majority of food was grown, raised or picked by them. The kids were all very involved with day to day chores, but managed to always find time to play outside and be kids. She recently shared that while they didn’t have much of anything to play with while growing up, they were never bored. Her childhood experiences shaped the way she lived her entire life. A group of friends arranged a blind date for Lois and Brian at Wasaga Beach one Saturday, which ended up a tremendous success. On Apr 6, 1957 she married Brian Lee, and they began the next phase of life with a newlywed’s innocent optimism and excitement for the future. They had a son Gary in 1958, bought a house in 1961 and later that same year had a daughter, Carol. They enjoyed camping and weekends at the lake, ultimately finding a permanent trailer site near Peterbrough and enjoying over 25 years there. She also enjoyed many winter trips to Florida, cruising, a Hawaii vacation and some trips to British Columbia. She was an excellent baker, skilled knitter and appreciated a nice garden, while hobbies including folk art and crafting. The house still holds many of her creations over the years. Lois enjoyed volunteering with Gloria - helping in the cash trailer (sorting and counting cash) at the Rotary Ribfest for a number of years plus helping at the rotary annual golf tournaments with her sisters. At the hospital she accompanied Gloria in the gift shop and making cupcakes and bake goodies for their annual sale. The highlight for Lois was the expanding family she was blessed with. She enjoyed seeing her grandkids enter their 30’s, marry and start their own families resulting in 10 great grandkids. She would routinely share how proud she was of everyone in her family. Lois is survived by 3 generations of descendants (2 children and spouses, 4 grandkids and spouses, and 10 great-grandkids). They are on their respective life journey with the same optimism and excitement as she and Brian had, and she will continue to enjoy and watch proudly.
