Margaret Deffett (nee Harrington), age 89, passed away on Friday, April 25th.
Marg was a wonderful wife, mom, nana, aunt, neighbour and friend to so many people. She married Murray James Deffett in 1957 and together, until Murray passed in 2009, they raised three happy and healthy kids: Donna, Mathew and Randy and cherished their grandkids: Kyle, Stacie, Lily and Owen. As her children married, Marg extended her embrace to daughters-in-law, Mae and Nathalie and son-in-law Mike.
In her years living in Cabbage Town, the Beaches, Pickering and her Pickering condominium, Marg made a positive impact on all those she met. She had a large group of friends during her single days in 1950s Cabbage Town- all friends for life. During 26 years working in the cafeteria at Eastern Commerce High School, generations of students called her "mom", and as a hockey mom/grandma, Marg was the loudest voice in the arena.
After Murray passed, mom moved into her own condominium where she remained stubbornly independent, the emphasis on stubborn. Occasionally, if you raised her temper she let you know, but that was always short-lived.
Margaret was all about family. We are sad that mom has departed this world and we will not see her anymore. That said, we do have a smile that she will be reunited with the rest of her family- in Heaven. Marg will be reunited with her predeceased loved ones: husband Murray, siblings June Ross, Danny and Patrick Harrington, nephew Danny Down, her parents, Dennis and Norah Harrington, brother-in-law Al Ross, and a long list of friends previously passed.
What an Irish party they will have to welcome Margaret to heaven!
Friends will be received on Wednesday April 30, 2025 at the Accettone Funeral Home (384 Finley Ave., Ajax) from 6-9 pm and Thursday May 1st from 12 noon until the time of service in the chapel at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be gratefully welcome.
